Joe Flacco’s wife gives him ‘crap’ over appearance when lining up at WR

A new wrinkle in the Baltimore Ravens’ offense — thanks to the arrival of dynamic rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson — has occasionally put veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco in the uncomfortable position of lining up at times at the wide receiver position.

According to Flacco, this has caused him some grief on the home front, as his wife apparently has razzed him over appearing less-than-enthusiastic whenever he’s forced to trot out and line up as a wideout.

“My wife gave me crap the one day, told me I need to look more interested out there,” Flacco said Wednesday, via ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. “But I’m just trying to stay out of it. I’m not comfortable out there. I don’t need to get too creative.”

Flacco, who has typically been resistant to any attempts at trickeration or deception on offense, has been a good soldier so far this season whenever Jackson replaces him at quarterback and he lines up outside. Although it’s not like he’s doing much.

“You can see me. I’m out there just standing,” Flacco said. “I really just try to stay out of the way of everything. That’s what I’m told to do. That’s what I’m doing.”

That said, as Flacco notes, he is well aware of the fact the Ravens have little intent, if any at all, at actually slinging the ball in his direction, nor does the team expect him to do much else than occupy space and serve as a glorified decoy. When asked if he has any expectations of ever catching a pass this season, Flacco bluntly stated, “I sure hope not.”

Many pundits suspected it conceivably could have been the end of the road — or at least nearing it — for Flacco in Baltimore with the selection of Jackson with the 32nd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

However, the 33-year-old — who did not seem pleased with Jackson’s arrival —  has risen to the challenge, leading the Ravens to a respectable 3-2 record while completing 61.2 percent of his passes for 1,550 yards and eight touchdowns to only three interceptions.

Just don’t expect him to be running any routes, though.
