Report: Giants’ Collins headed to IR with shoulder injury

New York Giants safety Landon Collins will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a shoulder injury against the Chicago Bears in Week 13, sources told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

Head coach Pat Shurmur announced on Wednesday that the 24-year-old's injury will likely require surgery, although that hasn't been finalized yet.

Collins missed snaps during the Giants' 30-27 overtime victory over Chicago on Sunday, but he was able to finish the game.

The two-time Pro Bowler has recorded 96 combined tackles, one forced fumble, and five tackles for a loss this season.

Safeties Michael Thomas and Sean Chandler should see increased playing time in Collins' absence.
