Panthers’ Davis says team won’t re-sign him, vows not to retire

Linebacker Thomas Davis will not be on the Carolina Panthers' roster when next season kicks off.

Davis released a video Wednesday saying the Panthers informed him they are "(going) in a different direction" with the linebacker position. He vowed not to retire and says he will look for a new team to play for in 2019.

Carolina drafted Davis 14th overall in the 2005 draft. He's accumulated 1,111 combined tackles, 28 sacks, 18 forced fumbles, and 13 interceptions in 176 games for the team.

Davis recorded 79 total tackles and two fumble recoveries last season.

The Panthers started 2018 with a 6-2 record before dropping seven of their last eight games.
